Ultrafine Grinding for Soy Protein

Ultrafine Grinding Project for Soy Protein at a Large Botanical Extraction Plant in Russia

As one of the world’s major soybean-producing countries, Russia has seen rapidly growing demand in recent years for deeply processed soybean products. The customer in this project is a large local plant protein manufacturer specializing in soy protein isolate and soy protein concentrate, produced through ultrafine grinding for soy protein and widely used in meat processing, dairy alternatives, and bakery products.

Customer Requirements

  • Particle size distribution: The finished product must achieve D99 ≤ 92.8 μm to ensure good solubility and mouthfeel in downstream applications.
  • High production capacity: The production line must stably reach 1,000 kg/h.
  • Material characteristics: Soy protein has a high fiber content and certain toughness. Conventional grinders tend to generate excessive heat, which can lead to protein denaturation.

Technical Solution: Epic Powder Air Classifier Mill System

Ultrafine Grinding for Soy Protein

Based on the characteristics of soy protein, Epic Powder recommended an Air Classifier Mill (ACM) integrating grinding and classification in a single system. This ultrafine grinding for soy protein solution enables precise control of coarse particles while efficiently processing tough plant proteins.

Technical Features of the Equipment

  • Integrated high-precision classification system: A classifier wheel arranged horizontally or vertically is built into the grinding chamber. By adjusting the classifier wheel speed, oversized particles are accurately rejected and returned to the grinding zone, ensuring strict compliance with the D99 requirement.
  • High airflow, low-temperature operation: The air classifier mill uses a powerful induced airflow to generate continuous air movement during grinding. This airflow not only conveys the material but also removes heat generated during grinding, effectively preserving the biological activity and functional properties of soy protein, such as emulsification and gelling performance.
  • Wear-resistant and easy-to-clean design: For food-grade applications, all material-contact parts are made of stainless steel and designed for easy disassembly, complying with Russian local regulations and international food safety standards.

Performance Comparison

After commissioning and operation at the Russian site, the system fully met performance targets and achieved stable mass production.
